Trick or Treating for real

Finally the big day arrived!  Ryan was in great spirits and happily put on his costume.  He took great delight in telling everyone what a dinosaur says ("Roar," if you'd like to know...)

We practiced all day how to trick-or-treat:
Door opens.  Say "trick or treat."  They will give you a treat and you say "thank you" and "Happy Halloween!"

In reality, it went more like this:
Ryan is ushered to the door by Mom, somewhat unwillingly.  Door opens and total silence.  He panics.  He looks like he's just seen a monster and he's terrified.  I tried twice to get him to say "trick or treat," but he just kept staring at the lady standing in the doorway of her house.  Finally I whispered in his ear "say trick or treat" and finally he whispered back "trick or treat."  Once he got the first house behind him, he hit his stride and had a great time.

Triumphant!  One house down...bring on the rest of the neighborhood!

Ryan had a great night, and to be honest, it was a total blast for us to watch him have so much fun.  Happy Halloween 2010!
